The Graphic Design Process

If your thinking of working with us, rest assured at Studio Whitby we believe in making our design projects as easy and as simple as possible for our clients. The work carried out is always made clear, there’s no hidden costs and we always keep you updated as the project progresses. While every project is different, I’ve outlined an average graphic design job below - from first contact to final press so that you can get an idea of how we work.

Stage One
To start off, we will ask you to provide a design brief, over the phone, Online or by calling into the Design Studio. Don’t worry if you don’t have many ideas, its just to get a general idea of what you require and allows us to get a better understanding of the work involved, enabling us to give you the most competitive quote. Stage Two
Once you are happy with our quote and have agreed on the cost of the job, we will usually require a 30% deposit and any agreed content to be provided in a word or pages document. Supplied imagery should be sent as high res Jpeg or PNG files.

Stage Three
We will then begin the design process, which usually starts with sketches or conceptual ideas which naturally move on to more evolved digital mock-ups. Once we have a design together we send across a proof file (usually PDF) via Email. This allows you time to fully look over the design and advise of any changes or amendments you might require. Depending on the size and scope of the project, the content supplied and our current work-load, stage three can take from 2-3 days to several weeks. Timescales and deadlines will usually be agreed beforehand and we keep you up-to date on how it is proceeding and the work we are doing.

Stage Four
The design can then be tweaked until you are completely happy. Because we have taken the time at the start of the project to get a full understanding of what is required - this stage rarely takes more than 2 or 3 amendments and often no changes at all!

Stage Five
Once the final design is agreed and signed off we will either send the files to our partnered printing company, or if the job needs to be submitted to a newspaper or magazine we can supply press ready PDF files via Email or a download link.
